Robertina Goldmann geb. Katz
ROBERTINA GOLDMANN, née KATZ, was born on March 6, 1875 in Hanover. She was married to KONRAD GOLDMANN, the owner of a wire and cable factory. The couple had been living apart since 1924. From October 1, 1931, she was registered at Mozartstrasse 14 in Freiburg, where she lived until her death on July 24, 1934. She and her husband had a son, Martin (*August 10, 1901). A daughter, Fanny, is also mentioned in some documents.
The son took over the company and in 1933 signed over the Wego wire and cable works at Wentzingerstrasse 34 to his accountant in a fictitious contract. Until about 1937, writes Andrea Brucher-Lembach in her book „… like dogs on a piece of bread“ (source 6), „the sale of a Jewish business was a purely private matter between the seller and the buyer.“ Martin Goldmann emigrated to England in time – in 1933.
ROBERTINA GOLDMANN’s son lived in London until his death. He wrote to his wife that he „could not bear to be treated as a second-class citizen“ (ibid., p. 43). He died – he probably took his own life – after learning that his accountant wanted to convert the company into a general partnership. He feared losing the company completely (ibid., p. 240).
ROBERTINA GOLDMANN died in the same year as her son, on July 24, 1934 in Freiburg, at the age of 59.
