Robert Hirsch
ROBERT (also ROBERT Bruno) HIRSCH was born on February 4, 1905 in Aschaffenburg. He was the son of the merchant David Hirsch (1872-1943) and his wife Bertha Hirsch (1879-1944) née Gärtner.
ROBERT HIRSCH’s first marriage was to Margareta Helena Schöffler, but they divorced in 1937 after five years of marriage. He was a traveler by profession and later a garden worker. During the Kristallnacht of November 9th/10th, 1938, ROBERT HIRSCH was arrested in Freiburg and deported to the Dachau concentration camp on November 11th, 1938. There he was assigned the prisoner number 20754.
There are no entries about ROBERT HIRSCH in the residents‘ register of the city of Freiburg from 1933 to 1940. On July 30, 1940, he married MATHILDE HIRSCH, divorced SCHLESINGER, in Freiburg. PAULA ROSA FÜRTH, who was also registered with her husband SIMON at Rheinstrasse 17, was called Hirsch as her maiden name.
On October 22, 1940, ROBERT HIRSCH was arrested again, along with numerous other citizens of Freiburg. These more than 350 people from this city were deported in 11 trains to the Gurs camp. After almost 2 torturous years there, ROBERT HIRSCH was deported to the Drancy concentration camp. From there he was finally taken to the Auschwitz concentration camp with convoy no. 24 on August 26, 1942. ROBERT HIRSCH was murdered in the gas chambers of the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp at the age of 37.
