Robert Burgheimer

ROBERT BURGHEIMER (also Burchheimer) was born on August 20, 1882 in Breisach. He last lived at Klarastraße 29 in Freiburg. He was also registered at seven other addresses, including Erwinstraße 102 and Niemensstraße 2. He worked as a laboratory technician and horse groom. He was married to Elise Burgheimer, née Mayer, who was born on April 1, 1873.

He was arrested after Kristallnacht on November 9th/10th, 1938. Together with more than 130 men of Jewish religion from Freiburg and the surrounding area, he was then deported from Freiburg prison to the Dachau concentration camp on November 11th. ROBERT BURGHEIMER was given prisoner number 21338 and had to hand over his cash of 2.81 Reichsmarks.

After his release he returned to Freiburg. On October 22, 1940 he was arrested again and deported to the Gurs camp. He was able to survive the almost two years in this terrible camp. But from there ROBERT BURGHEIMER was then deported to the Drancy concentration camp and finally taken to the Auschwitz concentration camp with convoy number 19 on August 14, 1942. ROBERT BURGHEIMER was murdered in the gas chambers of Auschwitz-Birkenau immediately after his arrival at the age of 60. He was officially declared dead on May 8, 1945.
