Lotte Lina Meyer

LOTTE (also LINA BERTA) MEYER was born on October 17, 1876 in Chur (Switzerland). The folk song researcher and collector came from a Jewish family of professors who lived in Berlin and Braunschweig. She is the daughter of JOHANNA MEYER and Prof. Dr. Richard Meyer. She had a brother, Erich Meyer. LOTTE LINA MEYER moved to Braunschweig in September 1915, and on June 1, 1929, she registered in Harzburg. From 1938 onwards she lived in Freiburg at Dreikönigstrasse 6 and from 1938 onwards in the „Pension Klute“, which was initially registered at Goethestrasse 71 and from 1940 at Goethestrasse 73.
LOTTE LINA MEYER collected folk songs all her life. At last she owned a collection of 61 German and foreign language printed folk song collections and a handwritten collection from Switzerland in Swiss dialect. Their collection was confiscated by the Secret State Police (GESTAPO) in Freiburg in December 1939 and passed on to the German Folk Song Archive in Freiburg. The books were entered in the accession book of a Freiburg library on December 19, 1939. The family was unable to emigrate to Switzerland. LOTTE LINA MEYER and her mother JOHANNA MEYER were deported to the Theresienstadt concentration camp on August 22, 1942 on transport XIII/1. This transport reached the Bauschowitz train station in Theresienstadt on August 23, 1942. LOTTE LINA MEYER was only able to survive the catastrophic conditions of this cruel camp for a good six months. She died at the age of 67 on March 3, 1943.
