Dr. Josef Levi

DR.JOSEF LEVI was born on March 13, 1864 in Worblingen. He was a general practitioner, his practice and his apartment were at Karlstrasse 2. He had been registered there since 1903. He was married to SOFIE LEVI, née KIEFER. They had four sons together: Ernst Friedrich (*August 27, 1904), Oskar, Otto and Heinz (*February 18, 1912) and a daughter, Elisabeth (*July 8, 1896). He was forced to give up his practice in 1936 by the National Socialist rulers in Freiburg. Shortly afterwards he moved to Mozartstrasse 14 and from there to an apartment at Karlsplatz 26.

From here he was arrested along with his wife and 31 other Freiburg residents on August 22, 1942 and deported to the Theresienstadt concentration camp. The deportation train XIII/1 went via Stuttgart and reached the Bauschowitz station, which belonged to the Theresienstadt concentration camp, on August 23, 1942. He starved to death there in the Theresienstadt concentration camp at the age of 79. His date of death is January 24, 1943.
